A screening of the video work by Helene Sommer introduced by the artist and followed by discussion will take place on 1st April, 2010 at The Red House Center for Culture and Debate, Sofia. A Tale of Stone and Wood explores cinema with regard to its constructions of history, national identity and collective memory. The video piece takes its starting point in Kovachevitza, a small village in the Rhodopi Mountains, which after it was deserted due to restructuring during the Communist regime was rediscovered by the film industry in the 1970s. Transitland at Reina Sofia, Madrid

Transitland. Video Art from Central and Eastern Europe will present four one-hour themed programs from 15th to 31th March 2010 at Reina Sofia Museum, 52 Santa Isabel Str. Madrid. Twenty-nine selected works will be screened in the museum’s cinema as part of the program. Additionally, a round table discussion will be held on 17th March in Madrid.

The selection of the works is made by curators Kathy Rae Huffman and Berta Sichel.

Transitland exhibition at Ludwig Museum, Budapest

Transitland. Video Art from Central and Eastern Europe will present its works from 22nd January to 7th March 2010 at Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art, Budapest. The exhibition is a thematic selection from the materials of the digital reader Transitland through which the artists convey numerous individual viewpoints and provide a personal tone to the aesthetic and critical discourse concerning the political changes and the period of transition.

The participating artists are Gordana Andjelic-Galic, Apsolutno, Azorro, Yael Bartana, Pavel Braila, Egon Bunne, Chto Delat, Kaspars Goba, Gusztav Hamos, Ana Husman, Kai Kaljo, Sejla Kameric, Szabolcs KissPal, Damir Niksic, Adrian Paci, Radek Community + Dmitry Gutov, Jozef Robakowski, Anri Sala, Andras Solyom, Milica Tomic, Artur Zmijewsk

A book launch, a discussion and screening of selected works organized by Ludwig Museum-Museum of Contemporary Art Budapest and ACAX – Agency for Contemporary Art Exchange will happen on 10th November 2009, Budapest.

Transitland Destination Berlin (TDB) celebrates the launch of the digital video archive making it accessible to the public and contextualising the work with a programme of complementary discussions, performances and screenings taking place over the course of three days – 6th, 7th and 8th November, 2009 at the CHB – Collegium Hungaricum, Ungarisches Kulturinstitut Dorotheenstraße 12, Berlin.

Highlighting the ongoing work of New Europe, TDB premieres the six commissioned video works of the Transitland project and the Transitland publication.

Discussions from Transitland Destination Berlin will be broadcast on Herbstradio 99.1 FM Berlin.

The curators of the event are Diana McCarty (program) and Kathy Rae Huffmann (screenings).

Transitland will present a series of screenings on 7th, 12th and 28th October 2009, 19:30 at the Red House Center for Culture and Debate – Sofia.

The first screening brings together television, personal stories and revolt. In his potent personal documentary, 1989 The Real Power of TV Gusztav Hamos (Hungary) mixes an analysis of the TV news of the Romanian revolution with his grandmother’s stories of living through three wars. Budapest Lecture, 23th September 2009

Chantal Beret, curator (Centre Pompidou ) and Jeremy Lewison, independent curator (London) will give a lecture aimed at answering the question: Public and Private Collecting: Is there a difference? The lecture will will be held on 23th September 2009, 19:00, at ERNST Museum, 8 Nagymezo Str., Budapest.

In their lectures Chantal Beret and Jeremy Lewison will focus on the differences in roles, responsibilities and missions between public collections and private foundations in the collection of modern and contemporary art. Jeremy Lewison’s talk will draw on his experience as director of Collections of Tate and his experience as an art consultant and advisor of Kadist Art Foundation. Beret will introduce the strategy/methodology of Centre Pompidou concerning archiving and collecting.

The lectures will be held in English.

Sofia Launch Event is part of Transitland. Video Art from Central and Eastern Europe 1989-2009 collaborative project. The event will be hosted on the 18th and 19th September, 14:00, by Goethe-Insistut Bulgaria, Sofia. The event features discussion panels and a series of screenings. The first discussion panel addresses the question of expectations right after the Fall of the Wall, the second one traces what actually was happening in those 20 years and the third – leads to the ultimate question where we are heading now. TOSMI 2009 has just finished

After three weeks of hard work and hard partying TOSMI 2009 has finished. Two of the sessions conducted during TOSMI 2009 trainings focused on game art design and 3D animation modeling, editing and production. The training was based on open source software and aimed to provide skills in the usage of innovative and efficient tools and distribution channels allowing for achieving quality production and/or education process at low expenses.
