SHOTS IN THE DARKNESS
video installation 1998

Description :

A line of white shirts is hung up across a dark space (the exhibition space) at eyes level, so as to simulate a mise-en-scene of an execution.
A number of video projectors are set in front of the shirts so their projections cover the shirts area. \par The video is edited in very short sequences (TV materials), with amplified loud sound, so to produce a gunshot-like effect. The sequences are reduced on small scales taking small parts at different locations of the projection area (so that it seems that the shirts have a heart, stomach, chest) or the wall behind. In this way the shirts are visible only in the short moments of the light sequences (the exact moment of the execution).
The installation deals with the violence of the mass media.

When the Mass media project their visions the individual is dead. The general formula of  communication theory transmitter-message-receiver is so much like executor-bullet-victim.
