Double Fault
video installation
by DANIELA KOSTOVA

“Double Mistake” is a video installation based on performance which presents a game of table tennis between two unified people (twins). The table is divided in two by a double-side mirror glass perpendicular and half the size of the playing field. Special lighting is installed /projectors/ which on moving manipulates the reflections in the mirror glass. The game is perceived by the senses, in an unconscious way and has the nature of an illusion.
Two twins dressed in the same way are playing at both sides of the tables, but each is playing with himself.
The work discusses the problem of isolation / communication in a global, group and interpersonal perspective, the existing cultural unifications, the confusion-mistake originating from the various manipulations that we are subjected to.
“It is the visual, optical and paradoxal that introduce the viewer to the semantic aspects of this work”.
My desire is to create a situation mise-en-scene that I will film from three points of view:
- from the point of view of one of the players
- from the point of view of the other of the players
- frontally

I enclose a scheme of the project below.

Exhibiting:

My goal is to create a total environment - space with three screens - projections synchronised and presenting the game from three different viewpoints:
- objective - that of the viewer watching the game
- subjective 1 - that of the player who cannot see his opponent and plays with his own projection
- subjective 2 - that of the player who can see his opponent /his twin/ and together with his own reflection creates the illusion of a “double mistake”.
The sound is stereo from the hits of the balls in the separating wall.
