Premiere screening of “Je mehr es hervordringt”, EMARE 2008
After a two-month residency period of dense research and production in Sofia, London-based Greek artist Theo Prodromidis will show his film Je mehr es hervordringt on Thursday, 30th of October in the Red Hall of Red House Centre for Culture and Debate. The film occupies a particular critical approach to contemporary urban development, drawing upon the present and investigating into the future of the city. The plot, dressed up in visual language far from typical for previous "storytelling" focused on Sofia, calls upon visual reference from the French new wave of the 50s and 60s and even further back to the time of the constructivist movement.

After a two-month residency period of dense research and production in Sofia, London-based Greek artist Theo Prodromidis will show his film Je mehr es hervordringt on Thursday, 30th of October in the Red Hall of Red House Centre for Culture and Debate.

Dedicated to Sofia and some patterns of its recent urban development, the film has as a main subject the production of commercial architectural structures (Mall of Sofa, Sofia Business Park, Europe Park Sofia). Those three locations of the film produce an axis of movement inside the city that is interrupted by sites of expected critical production such as the artist’s studio and the theatre, spaces that are traditionally located inside the fabric of a city and a society.

The movement between spaces and the transition of objects and their performance are critical to the concerns of the film. The locations in the work propose an axis on WEST-EAST where the action is being moved between, a movement that is imagined to describe a current state of Bulgaria and generally of the region.

The object of the proposed building plan is being transformed into a stage set and later, to a musical score that is finally being performed to another structure. It undergoes a circle between materiality and immateriality, a shifting state that could describe both the cultural object as such, but also the aspirations and investments on such a building/object.

The film "Je mehr es hervordringt" by Theo Prodromidis was realized in Sofia in frames of EMARE residency (September-October 2008) organized by InterSpace Association. EMARE residencies are realized in cooperation between four hosts in Europe, namely Werkleitz Center for Media Arts in Halle , IMPAKT in Utrecht,Interspace, Sofia and VIVID, Birmingham, and with the support of Culture 2007 Programme of the European Commission.
