Alan Taylor chose Bulgaria for the premier of his new book - We, the Media
The English film and media lecturer Dr. Alan Taylor will present his latest research on the early development of U.S. public media at the Cinemahouse in Sofia. The presentation is organised by InterSpace Media Art Center. The book will be presented in two separate talks: 19 July, Tuesday, at 8 p.m. at the Cinema House - Sofia Whatever Happened to News Fairness? Histories and Analysis of US TV News. 26 July, Tuesday, at 8 p.m. at the Cinema House - Sofia From Redford to Pacino: The Hollywood Representation of TV News 1976-1999 During the talks there will be a donation campaign at the Cinema House, initiated by Dr. A. Taylor. The money from the campaign will be spent on educational materials in film and media for the students from 2nd High School "prof. Emilian Stanev" in Sofia.

The study of the author in U.S. mainstream film and broadcast histories rests on an intertextual focus of 13 Hollywood films that, since the 1970s, assumed to represent the working practices of US corporate broadcast media (NBC/General Electric; CBS/Viacom; ABC/Disney; Fox News/NewsCorp.) The book agrues that since such corporations position themselves as individuals before the law, with their own rights to free speech, so their texts should be regarded as carefully authored rhetorical manouvres designed to forward their respective corporate agendas in what is now said to be a free and open market that considers advertising as "information".

The interdisciplinary approach is relevant in a study that critically analyses those corporate film entertainments which themselves ironically attempt to address vital contemporary public concerns in, for example: media ownership, gender representation, corporate mergers, free speech, new technologies, and the influential powers of market journalism itself.
