In May 2007 InterSpace launched a residence space for artists, curators and researchers, working in the area of new media and in the broader field of contemporary arts and culture.
Situated in the very centre of Sofia, it is a flexible space with three rooms for residents and can host workshops, trainings and seminars for up to 25 participants. Presentations, screenings and exhibitions can be organized in other venues in Sofia in cooperation with partner organization. Being next door to InterSpace office, it allows the residents to use various equipment /including audio and video stations/ and be involved with all the activities of the organization.
In a couple of hours by car residents can reach Istanbul, Bucharest, Belgrade, Thessaloniki, Skopje or Novi Sad, meet and work with partner organizations there and thus have the chance to roam about and explore a whole new region. Being networked with art centres in Central and Eastern Europe, AiRSpace shares the common goal of „Opening the Closed Shops“ and aims to help the residents explore and engage with the local cultural scene.
To apply for a residency, please send your portfolio, a motivation letter and a project proposal to air@i-space.org
Files are evaluated and applicants are contacted up to ten days after the date of application.
Apart from ongoing cooperation projects of InterSpace, for which open calls are organized with a predefined topics and profiles of the residents, all other residencies are arranged ad hoc and need to be funded by the residents themselves. Applications to art councils and various funds supporting artistic mobility can be made jointly or with the help of InterSpace.
